1. The Basics

Paint Parties are growing in popularity in UK nightclubs, and more and more suppliers are offering them...some are good, some not so good......we like to think we're amongst the best for three reasons: Important Point: We've heard talk in the industry of 'toxic' substances inside UV paint. Whilst we can't comment on what our competitors use/supply, Gunjee has always used our own paint formula, mixed onsite at each event. We know exactly what goes in and what it contains. Our formula is a secret, but we can provide COSHH sheets for the various components and ingredients to genuine venue/promoter requests. In fact, our UV paint is completely edible! Although we obviously wouldn't advise it!

3. Detailed Information

Our standard Paint Parties fire paint from hand-held 'guns' over 10 metres - this covers the heads (and indeed bodies) of most of your guests on the dancefloor! We can stand on existing podiums or raised areas in the venue, but we also have or own staging system to safely raise our operators above people's heads - meaning that we're shooting paint down at them, rather than shooting paint up at your lights! As of March 2012 we believe we're the only UK Paint Party operator offering this simple yet practical solution as standard at our events.

After arrival we'll liase with your staff to decide the best location to place the equipment...generally shooting away from the DJ Booth and towards the crowd is best, but we also have to take into account gangways, access and emergency exit locations. We'll protect delicate areas of your flooring as best we can - we use a combination of rubber-matting (good for areas below stairs/steps) and carpet sections (ideal for large open flat areas). Once we've got our location and all safety aspects sorted we'll set up the equipment and mix the paint. Although it looks and feels like paint it's actually a secret Gunjee recipe which contains much less actual paint than some others that are being used in clubs - but it glows just as brightly, is still completely safe, non-toxic (and indeed edible, but we really don't recommend it!). It is however really slippery on floor surfaces so we'll need good planning in advance to protect all areas where people are at risk of slipping.

The equipment requires an area up to 2m x 6m - basically the more space we have the more UV lighting we can put onto our tripods and so the more your crowd will glow! The absolute minimum space we will require is 2m x 3m, as close as possible to the dancefloor. The powered paint equipment requires approximately 8 amps of power from a standard 13amp socket, but our UV lighting requires a lot more. If you've got a good/knowledgeable lighting jock, get him to give us a call/email in advance to make sure we can power everything properly.

Before booking with us you should probably have a quick think about where it might be best to locate the paint and lighting and where the nearest power supply is (we much prefer a power supply either within our area, along a wall from the our area, or in the ceiling above our area). Power cables can be secured across where people walk but it does raise the risk factor slightly. We're more than happy to offer suggestions in advance via either of our contact methods.

Then we get to the Paint Party itself! Finally something fun! We'll liase with your DJ and/or lighting jock and/or manager about the best time to start the Paint, how many blasts you want (and how long each will be), and what time the last paint should be put out - we recommend stopping 60 minutes before you close but we'll listen to how busy and you are (and how late you stay busy). Our UV lighting always stays on until you close, meaning everyone glows right until the end of the night!

We offer a Free clean-up service at all standard Paint Parties but in general we don't need to! The mixture naturally degrades and when dispersed over surfaces it is mostly invisible under normal lighting. If you're at all worried about the mess, don't be! Email our events team for more detailed information.

If space and our event schedule allows we'll also bring a couple of bubble machines that blast out millions of glowing UV bubbles across your venue - a quick and 'cleaner' start to the night that rarely fails to get people onto the dancfloor!

5. Gunjee Media Policy

Please have a read - you can see it by clicking the link below. The fact we video at most of our events (although not always at UV Paint Parties) has benefits to you as a venue/promoter:

6. Timings (before and after you're open)

We normally require around 90 minutes before opening to set-up a standard Paint Party - this includes setting up the lighting, paint equipment and protecting the floor. If there are loads of different floor areas we will need to protect, we would recommend i) letting us know in advance and ii) lending us a member of your staff to make sure everything is ready before you open. Please let us know in advance what time we can get into the venue, what time we need to be set-up by, and whether there are stairs (up or down - this can add considerable time to the set-up!). Most important though is how we can gain access when we get there (doorbells, phone numbers, etc) - we can't begin to count the number of nightclubs we've been stood outside trying to attract the attention of someone inside!

At the end of the night we aim to pack down, clear up and be out of your way as quickly as possible. Packing down the paint equipment takes around 15 minutes, plus the time to carry it out. Lighting can take between 10/20 minutes on top of that, depending what lights we've used. Paint clear-up time depends if any is left behind. If you want to be out quickly, why not lend us a couple of staff for 20 minutes?

7. Space and other requirements

The Paint equipment requires a minimum area of 2m x 3m, but the tripods for our lights will also need space - either within our enclosed area or in protected areas around the venue (we can safely protect them/their legs with large tables). Each location will require a 13amp power supply, but the UV cannons draw a lot of power - the more we use, the higher rating ring we will need to plug into - get your technical staff to give us a call or email in advance if you're in any doubt (and see the detailed information section above for more info).

We have 5million FULL Public Liabilities Insurance and can provide all our paperwork in advance, including general risk assessments for our equipment, specific risk assessments for our equipment in your venue, COSHH data sheets and disclaimer notices. All our equipment is regularly mantained, including short tests in situ before each event. Our staff are fully trained in all aspects of Health and Safety to make sure us, you and your guests are as safe as possible during installation, during operation and during removal of our equipment. We constantly monitor safety during our events and will not allow anything that could cause accident or injury to our staff, your staff or your guests. Our operators have up to 10 years of experience working at nightclub events, with Health and Safety being the most important part of their training. As such we have an impeccable safety record, and we have no hesitation pausing or stopping events if the need arises.

The one thing we do require is that there is a member of club security staff at (or very near to) our location(s) at all times throughout the night.

We do advise you to floorwalk your venue in advance to identify areas that will become slippery when paint gets on them - it can get carried around most of the venue by your guests. These areas should be closed, manned or protected by yourselves or us to prevent people falling over and injuring themselves. We can provide advice in advance or advance and protection on the night, but if it's a large or complex venue we can't guarantee we can protect all areas.

8. Let us help you promote the event!

We're not promoters but we are good with video and we have had flyers for our events produced in the past (there's an example flyer at the bottom of this page). If you'd like to use it, or any media from our site to promote your party, just ask us about licensing our media! But you i) have to ask first and have to ii) agree to the site terms & conditions and the Gunjee Media Policy
